A kind of half assed approach to trading today. In hindsight I should have just not bothered, you really need to be focused and get your head in the game when deciding to trade. You can’t do it while you’re mind is wandering or trying to do other things between races. But after not trading yesterday I felt bad and that I needed some screen time. The reason for my less than required concentration was I’ve been thinking of a new approach to how I plan my week. I’ve decided that every Monday I am going to spend the 2 hours I usually spend trading re-visiting my previous trades and analysing what I did right, what I did wrong, what I didn’t do that I should have, and trying to spot things maybe I missed at the time. I think one of the keys to getting better at this is going to be constantly reviewing what I’m doing, good and bad. So assuming I take a day off at the weekend as well that’s 5 days a week trading and updating my progress on this blog.
Anyway back to the racing. The Irish racing didn’t seem to have a lot of liquidity in the markets today so that only left Ripon and Stratford. Managed four trades, It’s important to realise though that even the races you don’t trade, you are still watching the ladders and trying to read the market. That is still valuable experience and you learn from that all the same. The more exposure I get to all markets then I’m sure the more opportunities I’ll spot eventually. A few of the ones I didn’t trade I still made an assessment as to what I thought might happen and sometimes it did. That’s what I’m trying to do with every race whether I trade it or not. You can kick yourself a little when it goes in your favour and you didn’t back yourself. But you have to be strict and only trade the ones you feel the most confidence on. If I traded every opinion I made then I’m sure the losses would outweigh the winnings. And that in itself is a skill I need to develop. Being strict and only trading the markets I feel the strongest about. That coupled with the increased ability to read the markets over time I’m sure is going to be the key to making a significant amount of money with my trading.
