The Betfair live video always seems to be having off days. A few of the races today the video starts then after a few seconds it goes off with a notification saying ‘This race has now finished’ when it hadn’t even started. I do pay for Racing UK but I don’t have sky to cover all the racing. I’m currently in the process of buying a new house and when I get moved in and sorted I’m going to get Sky and have a dedicated TV to watch the racing from my home office. Until then I’m just going to have to persevere with Betfair’s shoddy offering. The TV pictures are around 10 seconds behind the Betfair live stream but it’s better than no pictures at all which is what I was working with today at some of the races. I don’t know if a ten second delay will mean I’ll miss out on some trades if, for example a horse is playing up and the market reacts, or if in fact more people are watching from the TV pictures and the market will react 10 seconds behind the Betfair live feed. I’ll keep my eye on that. These are all the things I’ll pick up through experience I suppose. Also I will have to make sure I close my trades well before it goes in-play so I don’t get caught out. The Betfair live feed is fairly well aligned with the race actually going in-play in real time. No doubt I’ll get caught with my trousers down more than once whilst I adjust to watching the TV pictures.
I follow Peter Webb on Twitter and he posted today that he’s putting the mouse down for a while because he’s too pissed off to trade (his words, not mine). A few of the comments were regarding the live stream and that a lot of people must be feeling the same as they had noticed a significant drop in liquidity. I have to say I didn’t notice this but I’m less experienced so maybe I just didn’t pick up on it. Anyway, today did feel like a good trading day for me and maybe that’s why. Maybe some of the more experienced traders called it a day and I just didn’t have as much stiff competition in the markets. Just a thought. Anyway finished the day in profit and only lost on one trade. I’ll take that!
